Regional Policy Forum

In the morning of February 19, 2014, administrators, faculty and researchers from national research councils and universities in Southeast Asia visited the community of the Magbukun Aetas in Morong, Bataan, Philippines to hear first hand the impact of government policies and programs that had the unintended but unfortunate negative impacts on the people (particularly the indigenous peoples) whose rights and ways of life they were supposed to protect. This set the stage for the discussions in the afternoon, where the research partners of UNIID-SEA shared the findings of their studies on institutional, national, regional programs and policies that are designed to engage and benefit the poor and marginalized (in the context of the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Thailand).
